It all started in Singapore

Ocean Gems was founded by Helene Raudaschl in Singapore in 2003/4 amidst the waning SARS pandemic in Asia. While the economy was in a slump, her pet project was to look for gaps in the market to get her business into the future. Seafood became a targeted category as she observed many irregularities in Singapore. Thus, Ocean Gems was born… with an exceptional vision in mind: Ocean Gems is to be the No.1 recognized seafood brand that consumers go to each time they want a consistent, tasty, delicious seafood product.

Indoguna Pte Ltd

1997

Indoguna Pte Ltd diversified its product line by sourcing fresh and live seafood from Australia. The advantages of fresh or live seafood were still superior to frozen products – an old notion that can be eradicated with the advances of food science and technology. Indoguna wanted to offer high-quality seafood to both professional and home kitchens.

Launch of Ocean Gems

2005

Indoguna revolutionized the seafood offerings landscape by offering tiger prawns that met global quality standards. This led to the introduction of Ocean Gems – the company’s premier brand for frozen seafood range.

Catering to Industry Needs

2005 – 2009

Following best industry practices, Ocean Gems partnered with the world’s finest farm fisheries. For five years, Ocean Gems focused on tiger prawns from South Chennai, India. The individually quick frozen prawns were available in different formats, portions, and sizes, a great relief to hoteliers and restaurateurs.

Making Waves and Beyond

2009

When Ocean Gems expanded to Hong Kong, Makiko Karasawa was recruited as its seafood specialist and business development manager. With Makiko’s expertise, the brand Ocean Gems commenced the journey of diversification, sourcing from the world the best seafood process practices to include in its range.

Towards a Sustainable Future

2014

MSC COC (Marine Stewardship Council Chain of Custody) certification was granted to Indoguna Singapore – the brand owner of Ocean Gems seafood products. The goal to continuously source from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture practices is amongst the first priorities of the brand

2017

Indoguna Singapore and Ocean Gems became a part of FoodService APME.
